Just wanted to post a quick review of the bands at V Fest that Flare Was There for. The place was Molson Amphitheatre and the time was Saturday August 29 and Sunday August 30th. Fun times.

1. Thunderheist was absolutely incredible. Lead singer Isis crowd surfed and left the audience in complete awe with vocals that punched radio in the face. Although the band usually plays at night, songs like “Nothing To Step To” and “LBG (Little Bootie Girl)” were pitch perfect and managed to turn the mid-day sun into a gigantic mirror ball. Our Sept. Issue features the duo btw and because she is so hot, Isis also makes an appearance in our special October issue.

2. The award for Most Stylish Performance goes to the Pet Shop Boys, who made Soundgarden look like janitors. They spruced their dancers up with disco 3000-y clothes which looked very much like Gareth Pugh’s designs mixed in with a very  Alexander Wang-ish type palette. Think cube heads, colour blocking (rubix cube motifs everywhere) and 80s, 80s, 80s. Song such as “Love Etc.” and “It’s A Sin” were hits for the crowd but their latest single “Did You See Me Coming” didn’t quite hit the mark. Dancing was also A+ and when they broke into “Suburbia”, it felt like time stood still.

Grizzlyslaves

3. Grizzly Bear wasn’t stylish in terms of their wardrobe (classic Brooklyn hipster vintage looks everywhere) yet their vocal stylings were astounding. Although the venue wasn’t quite suited to their intimate repertoire, they still managed to turn out beautiful tracks such as “Knife” and “Two Weeks”.  Adding bands like GB to the line-up gave it such a great mix. Long live the V! -EI
