The video short has become increasingly popular for fashion designers and a key medium for emerging labels and veteran fashion houses alike when showing new collections. Some even forgo a runway altogether – Halston and Gareth Pugh did it last season, Temperley chose that route for Spring 2010. For designer Jasmin Shokrian’s debut at New York Fashion Week she showcased the next chapter in her series of capsule collections called Draft No. 17 with the ever popular video and a Canadian star. Tory Burch’s 9am time slot just before Michael Kors couldn’t have been better planned. Every major buyer and editor was at Bryant Park to check out her spring collection of energetic, sporty, separates. Her expanded line of accessories included pink and tan strappy leather heels, tie-dye mini messenger bags, and belts with glam oversize buckles.

Toronto’s Jeremy Laing, Spring ‘10
Couldn’t be a nicer gift for Torontonian Jeremy Laing – he packed the room for his presentation at Milk Studios this afternoon. The Laing sculpture and technique were definitely there along with a softer palette and new fabrications – perforated leather and suede, all in separates that can easily be broken up for the less Helmut Lang-y types out there. So what is he up to after this? “It’s my birthday so I need to celebrate!” Cheers JL!

One of the best things about being at the shows is the celeb factor. It’s so fun seeing the cool girls like MTV’s Alexa Chung sitting front row. She’s created quite a stir here – today she’s in a short minidress and booties (aka her uniform). I’m busily snapping gals wearing cool toppers while it’s pouring rain in Manhattan. OMG – Tinsley Mortimer is causing an absolute frenzy at the Luca Luca show…
