Take note: keys to summer dressing in 2010 will be softly distressed denim, chiffon overlays, and lightweight jerseys. All were well represented in Diesel and Diesel Black Gold’s SS10 collections, which took inspiration from natural elements. The result was colour-saturated loose dresses and slender wind breakers, balanced by semi-sheer layering pieces. Sporty details kept the range from floating too far away from the label’s signature urban sensibility. Amongst our favourite pieces were a slim, zip-up jacket with suede inserts in a glowing geranium red, and a resort-worthy nylon mesh and leather high-heel sandal in turquoise and tan. - Fiona Green

Equal parts ingenue and tomboy, Dace Spring 2010 from Vancouver-based designer Dace Moore is a refreshingly effortless collection inspired by la Parisienne. Honing in on interchangeable separates, the line features a concise style code of mini dresses, peg-leg trousers, and body-skimming blouses. Her style has had tongues wagging at fashion weeks – especially Tommy Ton’s – but now this girl-about-town is climbing onto the catwalk for a few special appearances such as Altuzarra and modeling for Toronto designer Erin Kleinberg’s Spring 2010 look book. The easy chic of Kleinberg’s soft tees and cardigans is ultra louche on this model of the moment and we love the designer’s foray into sexy skirts and cropped tanks with mesh and hardware details. We want all of it, and have a feeling seeing it on Traina has something to do with that.

Vionnet is back. The French fashion house, known for exquisite bias cut, grecian-style gowns, will debut the Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear collection in Paris on October 3 after being absent for several seasons. Rodolfo Paglialunga is at the helm after spending 13 years at Prada. Judging from the stills, expect to see beautifully crafted pieces and stunning accessories. We think Madame Vionnet would definitely approve.

While our wardrobes are just beginning to reflect the fall trends, fashion editors have actually exhausted the season by September. We’ve been immersed in autumn and winter since February and with the Spring 2010 shows about to start, we can’t wait to get our hands onto the new collections. Hip Swedish label Acne debuted their spring offerings in London this week with a fresh new collection of slouchy blazers, metallic vests and floor-length dresses. For the first time the brand has partnered with Swarovski to create a number of pieces with slight embellishment – a cluster of crystals on the hip, for example – befitting their minimalist approach.
