Canadian gal Nina Dobrev (who FLARE named Next Big Thing in our October bonus anniversary issue) stars in CTV’s Vampire Diaries series as Elena, a PYT trying to decide between two hunky vampire brothers. It may be a tough job, but she manages to do it all with picture-perfect locks that rival those of Bella Swan. The series’ hairstylist, Randa Squillacote, shared her trick to mastering Dobrev’s alluring look: Start with freshly washed hair and blow-dry with a large round brush. Spray sections with White Sands Liquid Texture Medium Hold Styling Spray to protect it from the heat and enhance volume and shine. Once it’s dry, flatiron sections of hair, starting at the crown and lifting straight up. Turn the iron slightly in the middle of each section to create soft waves. Finish by combing with your fingers and misting with hairspray. White Sands Liquid Texture Medium Hold Styling Spray, $25. Call (877) 720-8477.

Blake Lively’s long, blond, perfectly tousled locks have become so popular with clients in NYC salons, The New York Times has crowned her look the new “Rachel.” Following in the iconic footsteps of Jennifer Aniston’s uber-popular layered shag on Friends (yes – we had it) and Farrah Fawcett’s signature flipped-out ’do, Lively’s ultra-shiny layers are coveted by girls all over the Upper East Side and beyond. Lively’s Gossip Girl stylist, Jennifer Johnson, revealed to the Times how to achieve Serena’s signature look: use a conditioning mask regularly to boost shine, and pin damp hair in a chignon and let it dry naturally for sexy, carefree waves.

Funny gal Ellen DeGeneres recently opened her popular daytime talk show with a monologue about how hard it is to choose a nail shade when splurging on a mani (we feel your pain, Ellen!) She name-dropped several cheeky O.P.I shades, including some of our faves, I Only Drink Champagne and My Chiuhuahua Bites! Ellen even whipped up her own take on the classic Roses are Red poem using only O.P.I hues: “Roses are Pretty & Privileged / Violets are Escape to Bahama / Blue is Got a Date To-Knight / Perfect for my mama.” Check out the entire poem and the video here.
P.S. Which is your ultimate O.P.I shade? Hit up the comments section and let us know!

Paintings by Vancouver-based artist Karin Bubas have graced our pages in the past, but her latest pieces are definitely a bit of a departure. Her subject? The “reality” show The Hills. Bubas has chosen a few epic moments from the drama to immortalize via chalk pastel drawings. It’s about as high-brow as The Hills is going to get. The exhibition is titled With Friends Like These….and is running from July 29-September 13 at the Charles H. Scott Gallery at Emily Carr. Fans should checkout her Dynasty water colours as well ( http://www.karinbubas.ca). —Alexandra Breen
